On an eventful night in Dortmund, the UEFA EURO 2024 campaign for a trio of Foxes players came to an end after Denmark lost 2-0 to Germany.
  • Jannik Vestergaard starts for Denmark as they lose in UEFA EURO 2024
  • Danes lose out 2-0 to Germany in last-16 match
  • Victor Kristiansen introduced late on, while Mads Hermansen remains an unused substitute
Jannik Vestergaard was named in Kasper Hjulmand's starting line-up in the last-16 fixture. The Danes thought they'd fallen behind early on in the contest, though Nico Schlotterbeck's header was ruled out for a foul in the build-up.
Denmark grew into the game until, 10 minutes before the break, a thunderstorm brought proceedings to an unscheduled halt as the players left the pitch for an extended period due to safety concerns.
After the recommencement and then later the restart at 0-0 following the half-time break, Denmark appeared to have opened the scoring when defender Joachim Andersen swivelled to turn home, with a tight offside call soon denying him.
Moments later, at the other end, Andersen was again in the thick of the action, this time being penalised for a handball and giving Kai Havertz the chance to push German noses in front from the penalty spot. An opportunity taken by the Arsenal forward.
Jamal Musiala broke through 15 minutes later to double the host side's lead, beating former City 'keeper Kasper Schmeichel to put the tie beyond Denmark.
Victor Kristiansen was brought on in the 81st minute, Mads Hermansen staying on the bench during the fixture, though there was no way back and the side exited the competition.
On Monday, Wout Faes could feature again for Belgium as they take on France in a 5pm BST kick-off) in Dusseldorf.
