has revealed he will be fulfilling a childhood dream when he makes his debut in English football, but knows he must fight for the chance to do so.
The Mali international, who will wear shirt no.18, has joined the Foxes on loan until the end of season from Granada and trained with his new team-mates for the first time on Friday morning.
Wagué, 25, is available for and he admits he is already familiar with the Club after their success last year.
Speaking to LCFC TV this week, the new Leicester City centre-back, who can also play at right-back if called upon, revealed: “Things have gone really well on the first day and everything is good so far.
“I’ve been looking forward to meeting my team-mates, so we’ll see how it all works out. The whole thing really moved really quickly. I was at the Africa Cup of Nations with Mali and I came back home.
“I got a phone call saying that Leicester City were interested, so it moved really quickly from then on. Of course, I know a lot about Leicester City and what they achieved last year – I think everyone knows.
"It was a fantastic achievement and I’m really pleased with what they were able to do.”
Having played in Serie A for the past two-and-a-half seasons, Wagué witnessed first-hand the reception received by City boss Claudio Ranieri in his homeland after leading the Club to the Premier League title last season.
He added: “The Italians were really proud of Claudio Ranieri because what he did last year, it’s not easy for anyone to do that. What he did do was absolutely wonderful – unbelievable in fact.”
Wagué started his professional career at Caen, where he was a team-mate of former City midfielder N'Golo Kanté, before also lining-up against Riyad Mahrez, then at Le Havre, during his four-year spell in France.
“I began playing in Caen where I had a really good time and that was where I really developed as a player,” he continued. “I played my first professional games at Caen and then went to Italy.
“[Kanté and Mahrez] are both really good players and to be able to play in the same team now is a really wonderful thing for me. It was pretty difficult in Italy given the challenges of the league.
"In the end, I got into the team and played some games and now here I am in England. It’s been my dream since I was a kid to come over and play in England. The Premier League’s game is really fast. There are a lot of one-on-ones and it’s very physical.
“I like watching Premier League games, so I can’t wait to get started and play in the Premier League myself. It’s been my dream since I was a kid to come over and play in England.”
Wagué also revealed he is keen to lay down a marker as soon as possible in his attempts to break into the City starting line-up with a hectic schedule of fixtures just around the corner for Ranieri’s men this month.
He added: “I’m really pleased about that because after all that was their strength last year. Being a group like that is fantastic and I hope that I’ll become part of that group as quickly as possible as well.
“My main aim is to get a place in the team. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to play in the team and become part of that group.”
