Foxes legend Steve Walsh believes Leicester City can benefit from playing the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Quarter-Final tie with Atletico Madrid away from home.
Craig Shakespeare’s men were on Friday and will first head to the Vicente Calderón Stadium on Wednesday 12 April.
A positive result away from home, , could prove pivotal to City’s chances of advancing to the semi-finals, according to Walsh.
“It’s a great opportunity and at the end of the day no matter who we got, it’s a massive achievement,” Walsh told .
“It’s a great journey we’re on at the moment and I wish people would stop writing us off! It’s certainly achievable, it really is.
“We’ve just showed that against Sevilla. They’ve come over and we’ve beaten them well so it’s an opportunity to progress. I’m happy with the draw and it’s fantastic for the Club.”
For Walsh, the tie evoked memories of City’s first round UEFA Cup clash with Los Rojiblancos in 1997, when he set up Ian Marshall for an away goal in the Spanish capital.
Walsh added: “My initial thoughts were taking me back to 1997 when we played Atletico Madrid. We’re going away and you need to try and get a result there. We scored early through Ian Marshall with an assist from myself so the away game is key.
“It’s great to be playing away first. We did it in Seville and if we bring them back here to this stadium, the atmosphere will be special. It’s a scary place to come to now.
“We like being the underdogs and it’s great that we’ve got that team spirit and togetherness. This team don’t know when they’re beaten.”
