- Leicester City will now focus on their Premier League campaign after reaching the Emirates FA Cup Final, says Brendan Rodgers- The manager saw his side beat Southampton 1-0 at Wembley Stadium in the semi-final on Sunday- Kelechi Iheanacho bagged the winning goal in the second half
A 55th-minute finish from Kelechi Iheanacho saw the Foxes beat the Saints 1-0 in the capital, as they reached the final of the competition for the first time since 1969.
Rodgers is of course looking forward to managing City in the final in mid-May, but knows there are several important Premier League matches on the horizon for his men.
“We’ll look forward to the final when it comes,” he told LCFC TV. “I said to the players afterwards that whether we won this game or lost this game, there’s going to be a huge mental challenge for us now because you get through, it’s great.
"You might only think of the final, but we’ve got a really exciting number of games now in the league before the final comes along.
“We’ll recover. We’ll enjoy this this evening, hopefully the supporters can as well, and we’ll recover and look to get three points from Thursday night.”
Rodgers was thrilled for City to reach a first final under his guidance, however he emphasised that their success will only be measured if they are able to lift the trophy by beating Chelsea next month.
He added: “It’ll raise the confidence again. It’s a huge achievement for us to get to a final, and now we’ve just got to keep pushing on. It’s everything, but I want us to win it.
“I don’t want to see the success of just getting to the final. We’ve done great. We’ve shown an attitude to the competitions that we want to arrive in, but when you arrive there, you want the win.
“So, the success isn’t just purely getting to the final. It’s amazing. It’s going to be a great occasion. When it comes, we want to win.”
