- Leicester City host Crystal Palace at King Power Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday- The 3pm kick-off will once again be staged behind closed doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic- Brendan Rodgers says his side are clear concerning the task at hand against Roy Hodgson's men- City's manager wants his players to overcome the pressure and perform to their abilities
Roy Hodgson's Eagles visit Filbert Way for a behind-closed-doors 3pm kick-off on Saturday and both sides head into the clash on the back of frustrating Premier League results.
While Palace were beaten 1-0 at home by Burnley on Monday, the Foxes fell to a 2-1 reverse at Everton two days later, leaving them third in the top-flight table with six games to go.
Viewing the standings with perspective - following a hugely enjoyable 2019/20 to date - is key for Rodgers, who has called on his players to now secure the Club's objectives.
"It’s just looking at the reality and having perspective," he said on Friday. "As a team, what we’ve contributed over the 32 games up until now has seen us in a fantastic position.
"These moments, when you’re not quite getting the results, you can become a little bit rigid, or emotional, but that’s not in our thinking.
"We’re very clear, collectively and individually, about the period that we’re in. We’ve been absolutely first class up until this point.
"We’ve had a couple of results which didn’t quite go our way, but that doesn’t take away from the worth I have in this team.
"We’re still in a brilliant position, I wouldn’t swap it, and for us it’s the case of playing with that freedom, all within the structure of how we work, and being really aggressive.
"Then, it’s about letting our talent work for us. It’s something which has worked for us over a period of time now. Maybe the confidence does take a hit, but that’s why perspective is important.
"We’re looking to get going again and you do that by working hard and tirelessly and then hopefully the luck changes for you."
Rodgers admits Leicester now face a new type of pressure with teams around them collecting productive results since the Premier League returned in June.
However, the Northern Irishman expects his young side to rise to the challenge of deflecting that pressure and using their own ambitious nature to get the job done.
"It’s a different pressure," he continued. "Football players live with pressure all the time, but of course, it’s a different pressure if you’re not quite finding the consistency.
"It’s what this group needs. In order to develop your leadership qualities, which I believe you can do in time, you need these moments when it doesn’t quite go well for you.
"It’s then reacting to that period and finding a way. That’s something that, in fairness to the squad, they’ve been absolutely great. We accept, collectively, where we’re at.
"The challenge for us a team is to overcome that. You do that by working even harder and having that sense of perspective as well, so that’s something that I’m currently managing.
"Ultimately, the responsibility is with me to get the team back playing to the level that we want to be at."
