- Leicester City are developing their maturity at a significant rate, according to manager Brendan Rodgers- The Foxes came from behind to claim a 1-1 Premier League draw with Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday- Youri Tielemans struck in the second half as City returned from Merseyside with their 39th point of 2020/21
Ayoze Pérez, Harvey Barnes and James Maddison all had attempts at goal in a hectic opening 15 minutes at Goodison Park, but City could not capitalise on their early opportunities and fell behind on the half-hour mark. It was Colombia international star James Rodríguez who put his side ahead with a neat long-range finish that struck the inside of the post before finding the back of the net with 30 minutes on the clock.
However, Leicester – a force throughout the fixture – hit back after the interval as No.8 Youri Tielemans collected Barnes’ pass before slamming home a low drive for 1-1, and that's how it finished. “When you dominate the second half like we did, you feel that you can go on and win the game, but the team’s maturing really well,” Rodgers said. “To play against an experienced side, a team that sat very deep and defended in a low blow, I thought they did everything they could.
“They just needed a little bit of luck to get over the line.”
Rodgers’ men have the opportunity to make it 10 games without loss in all competitions on Sunday, when they host Leeds United at King Power Stadium in the Premier League. City delivered a fine performance in their last clash with Marcelo Bielsa’s men, winning 4-1 at Elland Road in November thanks to Tielemans’ brace and strikes from Barnes and Jamie Vardy. “We’ll take our point and move onto the next game,” Rodgers added. “We’ve got to get ready for a tough game against Leeds at the weekend, but we’ll be ready for that.”
