- LCFC Women were defeated by Manchester United 5-1- Remy Siemsen netted her first goal for the Club at Leigh Sports Village- Alessia Russo scored a hat-trick for the Red Devils- The Foxes remain 12th of the Barclays Women’s Super League with six points
New signing Siemsen started and scored on her Foxes’ debut, as Leicester fell to defeat at the hands of Barclays Women’s Super League leaders Man Utd. Having waited two months to get on the pitch due to injury, the Australian was thrilled to open her City account, but was frustrated that it couldn’t keep the scoreline closer.
“Scoring against a world-class goalkeeper, who just won ‘keeper of the year, is a memorable one,” Siemsen told LCFC TV. “I’m happy to get my first goal but obviously we’re disappointed with the result. “I’ve been itching to get out there with the girls. It’s my first time playing, and I’ve got some good minutes under my belt, but it was also nice to play alongside a good group of girls.
“But the result didn’t reflect the game as much as we hoped for but hopefully, we can continue, head back to the drawing board and get settled for the game against Everton.”
Last weekend’s opponents have now gone 12 games unbeaten, following their home win against Leicester, as they rival current champions Chelsea, who have two games in hand on Marc Skinner’s side.
However the No.19 states that the Foxes are not here to fill the fixtures, and instead will work hard to produce an improved performance against Everton on Sunday (3pm GMT kick-off) at King Power Stadium.
“We knew it was going to be a tough game,” Siemsen explained. “They’re top of the league, and I think we gave them a little bit too much respect today and we need to tighten a few things up to focus our efforts on Everton next week at home.
“I think we need to stick to our principles and play our brand of football, not give so much respect to other teams and remember we have enough to stay in this league. I know we’ll put in those extra yards to make sure we’re ready next weekend.
“Every team in this league will have quality players, but we can’t let that get into our head’s or give them too much respect. We just need to believe in ourselves and our ability to beat world class teams."
