- Ashleigh Plumptre reflects on LCFC Women's fifth FA Women's Championship win in a row- The Foxes head into the Christmas break sitting top of the league standings- Plumptre admits City were frustrated not to keep a clean sheet at Blackburn Rovers on Sunday- The Foxes are determined to continue their admirable form into the New Year, she adds
Over their debut season as a professional club, City have settled well and embarked on a thrilling run of five consecutive wins, as well as reaching the Continental Tyres League Cup Quarter-Finals.
Natasha Flint netted a brace for the Foxes at Sir Tom Finney Stadium on Sunday which, alongside a Kayleigh McDonald own goal, enabled Leicester to retain top spot going into a festive break from action.
Leicester-born Plumptre has been ever-present during that incredible run of form, for a side which had previously never reached the league's summit, but she believes there are still areas to improve.
"In the last few games, we’ve got a few clean sheets," the 22-year-old told LCFC TV. "It was a bit frustrating not to get a clean sheet today, but it was testament to our graft today.
"We had to really work for the three points, especially when they got their two goals. I’m really proud of the team, we’ve got good momentum recently, so it’s really good.
"Every game we go into, we know we’re not going to walk over any team. We have to battle first and then, when we show progression, that’s when we can get our technical side out.
"Today, we weren’t as consistent with connecting passes as fluently as we’d have liked to, but the goals, especially, the passages of play, were very good."
Plumptre also believes that Leicester stood up to the physical challenge posed by Rovers in Lancashire, before highlighting the efforts of former Reading midfielder Remi Allen in the middle.
"Blackburn are always a really physical team," she added. "If we didn’t show that, we wouldn’t have been able to play our game, so it’s good that we’re still competing at that level first.
"Football is not just a technical game. We’ve got great technical players, but we showed up physically today.
"They’re a big team and we had Remi [Allen] winning headers. She’s half the size of them in the middle, so that shows how we wanted to compete."
The Foxes centre-back, who enjoyed a successful spell with USC Trojans in the United States before rejoining the Club, says playing alongside strikers like Flint is a massive confidence boost.
Also discussing Leicester's standing at the very top of the league table, Plumptre insists work must continue in earnest after the Christmas break to make sure they stay there.
"It makes our job easier," she said, on City's attacking talents. When the ball’s higher up the field, we’re making sure we’re alert because we know teams like Blackburn will go for long balls.
"We’ve got to make sure we’re set up as a back four, but I think we did well with that. The goals were a little sloppy on our behalf, I’m frustrated about that, but we got three points.
"I think the bus ride would have been miserable if we didn’t win! There’s not a lot of breathing room at the top of the table, so we can’t get too complacent.
"We can be happy with the momentum we’ve got and this is a perfect time for us to have a break and reset because it’s been a busy last two weeks.
"We’ve had a lot of games in a short period of time, everyone’s a bit tired. We’ll enjoy Christmas, however we spend it, and we’ll look forward to hitting the ground running in the New Year."
