City’s trips to the 120-year-old stadium have become synonymous with their individual and collective success – particularly in the past five years.
The clash at the home of the Baggies on 11 April, 2015 produced a rollercoaster of emotions that eventually resulted in a much-needed three points for City.
Their late success over West Ham United a week earlier had given them belief to mount an unlikely survival charge and the triumph over West Brom reaffirmed that.
Often shown on highlight reels celebrating the Club’s recent success, it was striker Jamie Vardy’s late, late winner that secured the points to register back-to-back Premier League triumphs for the first time since September. His goal came in the first minute of injury time. In typical Vardy style, his pestering of Gareth McAuley saw him dispossess the defender before a lung-busting sprint into the box and a low finish sent the travelling Blue Army into ecstasy.
The Foxes later finished in the relative comfort of 14th position, building the foundations for the unimaginable season that followed.
It was during the 2015/16 campaign that City’s next 3-2 triumph would arrive, but this time the points, remarkably, counted towards a title charge, rather than a relegation scrap.
If Vardy’s strike six months earlier carried with it significant importance for the Football Club, his 77th-minute effort on 31 October, 2015 had immense value both to his and City’s cause.
The success, which also featured an eight-minute brace from Riyad Mahrez, moved City into third position, and saw the No.9 score for the eight-straight Premier League match.
His scoring sequence continued against Watford and Newcastle United before a strike against Manchester United saw him surpass Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s record, which stood for 12 years.
Vardy went on to net 24 Premier League goals – his most in a single season for the Club – that campaign en route to the title.
During Leicester’s last four visits to the Hawthorns, Vardy has been on the scoresheet in all four wins for the Foxes.
But it was his goal against the Baggies on 10 March, 2018 that displayed technique that left all those in attendance in awe.
Salomón Rondón’s opener had initially given the hosts the lead, but Vardy’s immediate reply – in scintillating fashion – stunned the Hawthorns crowd.
A blonde-haired Mahrez lifted the ball over the top of the Baggies defence and into the path of City’s talisman, who sent a mouth-watering volley past Ben Foster.
It earned him the Club’s 2017/18 Goal of the Season award, and set the Foxes on the way to three Premier League points, with Mahrez, Kelechi Iheanacho and Vicente Iborra also on target.
