- LCFC Women fell to a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday- Matilda Vinberg scored the only goal of the game at Brisbane Road- The Foxes sit eighth in the Barclays Women’s Super League- Aileen Whelan discussed City’s loss in London
Leicester fell to a narrow defeat last weekend when an early goal from Matilda Vinberg led Spurs to victory in the capital, leaving the travelling side ruing their missed opportunities.
Following the game, Whelan discussed the match, admitting that the Foxes weren’t at their usual level, and must improve ahead of their next game.
“I don’t think we were at our best,” Whelan stated. “In possession and out of possession, we’ve got work to do, and we’ve got to turn it around now to face Brighton.
“It’s not ideal to concede so early, but we know we can bounce back from being 1-0 down, so we’ve got to put our chances away when we get them, but we didn’t today so they came away with the win.
“We’ll try to the very last minute; we came here wanting to get the three points and we haven’t so we’re disappointed. We’ve got to reflect on it, watch it back and better our mistakes to put it right at the weekend.”
The two sides meet again next month in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup Semi-Final, and the No.10 confirms that City will be much better that day at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Before that, the midfielder faces her old club Brighton & Hove Albion at King Power Stadium this weekend and is keen to put their mistakes right.
“We’ll be much better in the semi-final,” Whelan continued. “We’ll learn from our mistakes, and we’ll go out to win it like we do each game, because we weren’t good enough today.
“It’ll be a difficult fight again (this weekend). Brighton always bring the quality, in terms of the out of possession stuff, so we need to be on our game in possession, much better than we were today.”
