- Leicester City were held to a 0-0 stalemate by Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux Stadium - Manager Brendan Rodgers believes Wolves showed the Foxes respect in their tactical stratagem- The Northern Irishman also looked ahead to Wednesday's Emirates FA Cup outing
A game of few opportunities for either side could have ended in City securing their 14th 2020/21 Premier League victory, but substitute Jamie Vardy glanced an added-time header over Rui Patrício's crossbar. However, Rodgers was pleased with elements of Leicester's performance in the West Midlands, especially their patience, as Wolves looked to frustrate their visitors for long spells. "I think they offered us respect by sitting deep," the Northern Irishman told LCFC TV. "They had a back five. They’ve been playing a lot recently with a back four, so they’ve blocked up the spaces. "Of course, that makes it a bit more difficult to break through, but we showed good patience in our game. It was just that final bit of quality and little bit of luck you sometimes need."
Vardy's opportunity at the end was the final moment of action in a tense affair at Molineux Stadium and Rodgers admitted that he thought it was in.
"I think everyone did!" he added. "You could see his run and the move develop. It was a great cross by Marc [Albrighton] and he just gets in front. In fairness to him, [Leander] Dendoncker steps out well. "It just means he’s got to work his body that fraction more, rather than just having a clean header, but he gets contact. It looked like it was in, but it wasn’t to be."
City are next in action at King Power Stadium on Wednesday evening against Brighton & Hove Albion in the fifth round of the Emirates FA Cup (7:30pm GMT kick-off). Looking ahead, Rodgers continued: "We want to go as far as we can in every competition, so we’ll have to now recover. We’ve had a tough week of games, a really good win in midweek and tough game today.
"It’s two clean sheets and now we go into that one and look to get to the quarter-final."
