- Leicester City youngster Connor Wood previews Tuesday's trip to face Portsmouth- Pompey entertain the Foxes in Bognor Regis in the Premier League Cup (7pm kick-off)- City are top of Group F and need a win to strengthen their position - Wood has been impressive all season for the Club's Development Squad this term
With 26 outings to his name this term, Wood is level with Hamza Choudhury and Josh Knight among the highest appearances-makers in Steve Beaglehole's squad. “We’re definitely looking to bounce back, I’m sure the lads will,” he said. “We’ll take the positives and we’ll work hard in training and we want to bounce back with a positive result.
“It’s a massive contrast to last season. Going to Chelsea and losing just 1-0 last season wouldn't have been so bad, but everyone has stepped it up this season.
“Now we’re disappointed with draws against some of the top clubs, we’re up there with them and we’re one of the best teams in the league.”
Wood’s attacking talents have also been on show this season and, so long as he continues to fulfil his defensive duties, the 21-year-old is keen to continue providing assists for his colleagues.
“Obviously the priority is defending but when I can get up there and help out to create as many chances as I can, I’m happy,” he added.
“I’ve got the engine to get up and down so, when I can, I’ll always be there crossing it in and hopefully the boys can get on the end of it.
“It’s been a really good season for me, injury free too. Looking back on playing so games so many and being up there with the highest appearances, I’ve got to be happy with that.
“The ultimate goal for everyone is to break into the first team eventually and, as a team, it’s down to us all helping each other get there.”
