Leicester City in the Community host Iftar gathering
Participants were joined on Filbert Way by Abdul Fatawu
Iftar is the fast-breaking evening meal observed during Ramadan
The event, hosted by Leicester City in the Community and supported by After 18, Football Foundation, Islamic Relief and NCS, brought together participants from Football Welcomes, Active Women and Premier League Kicks, projects that work to create inclusive opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds.
The evening provided a unique opportunity for participants to pray and break their fast alongside the Foxes star, helping to create a sense of unity and celebration during Ramadan.
The Ghana international took time to engage with those in attendance, sharing his story while discussing the importance of football, faith and community. Abdul said: “It was a special moment to join an Iftar at King Power Stadium. Ramadan is so important to me and many other people across the world, so it was very good to be a part of this.
“It was nice for me to meet the participants and to see the Club being so welcoming and supportive of opportunities like this.”
Through Leicester City in the Community, the Iftar gathering is one of many ways we continue to engage with our local community and promote inclusion. By supporting programmes such as Football Welcomes, Active Women and Premier League Kicks, we help to ensure people from all walks of life have access to football and the benefits it brings.
The Football Welcomes initiative, in partnership with Amnesty International, supports refugees and asylum seekers through football-based activities, while Active Women encourages females from the Wycliffe area of the city to engage in sport and physical activity in a safe and welcoming environment.
Premier League Kicks, meanwhile, creates opportunities for young people who are at risk of anti-social behaviour, youth violence and/or from high-need areas to regularly engage in football, sport, mentoring and personal development opportunities.
Ali Adnan, Premier League Kicks Coordinator at Leicester City in the Community, said: “It was amazing to see so many people come together to celebrate Iftar at King Power Stadium.
“Events like this showcase the power of sport in bringing people from different backgrounds together. It’s not just about football - it’s about building friendships, understanding different cultures, and making people feel welcome in our community.
“Having Abdul join us made it even more special for our participants, as they got to see first-hand how footballers value and respect the traditions of those around them.”
