We host Coventry City in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday (12:30pm BST kick-off)
Leicester City are looking to maintain a 100 per cent record at King Power Stadium so far this season
Abdul Fatawu is hoping to continue his own excellent start to the new season
He also wants to give the fans reason to cheer in Saturday’s derby clash
The Ghana international has started 25/26 in fine form, scoring two stunners already, marking his return from a seven-month injury lay-off.
Now hitting top form, just in time for the visit of Frank Lampard's Sky Blues, he’s eager to deliver a performance on Filbert Way to help maintain our promising start to the new season.
“I think it’s a good start for me because to have three wins in five games is positive,” our No.7 told CITY Matchday Magazine, the official LCFC programme, on sale this weekend. “We just need to keep going and winning games to get to where we want to be.
“Being out for so long was sometimes hard, but when I started playing I got to know that it was good because it gives me more energy to play again. It made me miss football so now, when I’m playing football, I feel happy and I want to do more than I did before.
“Although the injury was not good, I feel like it has made me look different with more positive thinking. It makes me want to run everywhere for the team and the points.”
Abdul is enjoying life under new Manager Martí Cifuentes, too, and is excited by what this season could have in store for City as his methods start to translate into performances.
“He’s a good man so I feel happy,” he added. “He always tries to make sure you’re in good shape and tries to make you better – that’s what we need as young players coming up.
“I’m just happy working with him and I think, with what he’s doing and how we are working, we are going to be in a good position in the league.”
The former Sporting Lisbon winger is hopeful that Saturday can be another significant occasion in LE2, with Leicester looking to maintain a 100 per cent start on home soil.
“We are going to go straight in from the start because the last game (at Oxford) wasn’t so good for us,” Abdul added. “We are going all in for this game to get three points because we need it. It’s a derby as well. It always feels good playing derby games, especially at King Power Stadium.
“We just need to do what it takes to get the win and make the fans happy. It’s always amazing playing at King Power Stadium, especially scoring goals. We always play to make the fans happy.
“We need to do anything it takes to get three points – it makes the environment feel good and we want the fans to come back every week. I’m really looking forward to the weekend.”
