Our Under-18s saw off Crystal Palace 1-0 at LCFC Training Ground
Bismark Owusu scored the only goal of the game in Seagrave
Adam Barradell reflected on Saturday’s U18 Premier League South success
Birmingham City are up next for the Foxes youngsters this weekend
The young Foxes returned to winning ways at LCFC Training Ground courtesy of Bismark Owusu’s first-half finish and Barradell was extremely satisfied to earn three U18 Premier League South points on home soil.
“I thought on Saturday the boys were excellent in terms of all round performance,” City’s Coach began. “It was a complete performance. I thought we competed extremely well against a strong physical Crystal Palace team that played forward early.
“They played with two strikers that in the away fixture caused as a real problem and I thought our two midfielders and two centre-backs were excellent dealing with direct balls, winning second balls.
“I was really pleased for the boys to earn a clean sheet as well. Obviously, we value that within the Under-18s games, because they're not easy to come by.”
On the touchline in Seagrave.
Coming out on the wrong side of a 1-0 scoreline at West Ham United a week prior, keeping a clean sheet was especially pleasing, but Barradell still wants to see more clinical finishing at the other end of the pitch.
“They probably should have got a victory at West Ham and I was delighted they got it against Crystal Palace,” the 39-year-old continued. “We spoke a lot after West Ham about being better in both boxes.
“I thought there was some real good approach play, but the chances we missed against West Ham, you can't miss that amount and then we were sloppy for one period of the game and conceded a goal.
“So for us to do the exact opposite this weekend and see it out with a clean sheet was excellent and also to get the finish. We could have scored a couple more at the end, but that didn't come through in terms of finishing in the box. I'm delighted with the performance and some of the individuals.
“Obviously, Crystal Palace beat us in the away fixture and the boys felt they didn't show their true colours in that fixture, so they really wanted to put that right. But they've got to have that going into every game.”
Tackling the Blues on Saturday.
Heading across the Midlands to face Birmingham City on Saturday (11am GMT kick-off), Barradell wants to see the players back up the display against the Eagles by producing a performance with the same intensity.
“I expect it to be a different type of game against Birmingham,” he analysed. “They'll probably want to have the ball a little bit more. Obviously, we want to have the ball, so it'll be a different type of game than Palace.
“It'll be probably slower in the build-up that we face, not so many longer balls, but the boys will still have to defend well and with a huge amount of focus and concentration.
“Just because they had a good performance against Crystal Palace, that's gone now, we've spoke about that, we've put that to bed on Monday and we've been working this week towards having a good performance again on Saturday. It's important the lads don't rest on their laurels and keep trying to push on.
“Now they've got to kick on from that and they've got to show that exact same mentality. It doesn't matter who we're playing in terms of where they are in the league, they've got to show the exact mentality that the boys shown on Saturday because they really had the bit between their teeth.”
