  • Catching up with Adam Barradell on our start to the U18 Premier League South season
  • City recorded successive league victories ahead of the international break
  • The Under-18s Coach feels pleased with the players stepping up into the age group
  • Significant progress has been made ahead of facing Aston Villa this weekend, he says
Recovering from an opening day reverse to Fulham, the young Foxes have since seen off Reading and West Ham United in consecutive U18 Premier League South fixtures, with the only blot on the copybook since then a narrow Premier League Cup defeat at Newcastle United.
“It’s been a really positive start to the season,” the Coach reflected. “We were really unfortunate in the first game against Fulham. We created a lot of opportunities to score but just weren’t clinical enough in the box to get the result.
“We followed that up with games against Reading and West Ham and it all came together in those performances, so I’m really pleased.”

Welcoming a fresh cohort of players into the Under-18s squad, Barradell believes the early progress made has been promising, with building blocks put in place over the summer to get the group in the best shape possible to continue their development this season.
The 39-year-old commented: “The boys were excellent in pre-season during the trip to Poland and we had some good games that have set us up well for the season ahead. We did a lot of grounding on our defensive work and shape.
“Now we’re moving into a phase more around how we want to play with the ball. The boys have taken the information on really well, the staff have collaborated and built new relationships with the boys who have come into the building full-time.
“We integrated a lot of the boys into the group last season. It’s great to work with them day-to-day. They are a very honest, hardworking group who want to learn and take on the information.

“We had a big transition phase in the last three or four months of the season and the games were really difficult. We knew we had a young team and they were learning and they’d be better this season having had those experiences, even though they were challenging.
“It’s given us a good platform to move forward this year and hopefully continue being really competitive in the league but also moving players through the pathway.”
Reigning champions Aston Villa present the next challenge this coming Saturday, an 11am BST kick-off at Bodymoor Heath Training Ground, as the Foxes youngsters look to pick up where they left off before the international break.
“It’s always an exciting game when you go across to Villa,” he added. “They are a strong group having won the league and the Youth Cup last year, so it will be a good challenge for us, but we go in with high confidence having won the last two games.
“We’ve got a couple of working days before that game and it’s one that we are looking forward to.”
