  • Our Under-18s defeated Liverpool 1-0 in the U18 Premier League Cup
  • Substitute Joseph Corden scored the only goal in Seagrave on Saturday
  • Coach Adam Barradell praised the display from the Foxes youngsters
  • The winning streak has been extended after three successive league victories
Joseph Corden’s second-half goal was enough to seal three U18 Premier League Cup points at LCFC Training Ground for the young Foxes, who remain in the hunt to qualify from the group stages after getting up and running in the tournament.
“It was a game we knew we had to win to stay in the competition after losing the first game at Newcastle,” Barradell commented. “It was really important to try and get something out of it.

“I thought the lads were excellent in terms of how they prepared for the game and in really tough conditions with wind, but I thought they showed a real character and resilience. I was really pleased with the game management and how they managed the conditions on the day.
“The boys had to adapt how we played and they did that really well. To get a clean sheet again shows the work that we’ve been doing with the boys, but also how they’ve been executing it in games.
“It was really pleasing and I’m delighted for Joe Corden to come off the bench and score as he had a really difficult year through injuries last year.”

Beating West Ham United, Aston Villa and Ipswich Town in consecutive U18 Premier League South fixtures prior to the weekend, the winning streak continued as several new faces stepped up to make their debuts at this level.
“They are doing really well at the moment,” City’s coach explained. “It’s really important that the boys are competitive and we try and do that, but also to push players through the pathway. We want both here at Leicester. It’s a really pleasing start to the season.
“The boys have been able to show what the level is and the standards they’ve set and it’s important that we try and carry that on, pushing boys from the Under-15s and Under-16s into the scholarship group.
“We had Darren Motsi and Christian Boothe, two Under-16s, who played on Saturday. And also Joseph Colangelo-Allen, who is an Under-15s, who made his Under-18s debut. Boys in the youth development phase are getting opportunities in the Under-18s and that’s all credit to the coaches and staff who work in that foundation phase.”

Aston Villa are up next in the competition, travelling to Bodymoor Heath Training Ground on Saturday 22 November (11am BST kick-off), with three points currently separating the top two sides in Group B.
“Last year was disappointing because we didn’t manage to qualify in the Premier League Cup,” he reflected. “The games after Christmas keep development opportunities for the boys so the more competitive games they have under pressure, it will only develop them further to help our Under-21s and then through to the First Team.
“The experiences that the lads have are crucial so the game against Villa will be a good one. We’ve already played them in the league. They beat Newcastle so it really does make for an entertaining finish to the cup campaign.”
