The 19-year-old made his second Sky Bet Championship start in the stalemate at Home Park, setting up Yousef Salech’s 12th-minute opener with a low cross from the right, though it was cancelled out by Muhamed Tijani’s equaliser for the hosts.
Playing 76 minutes of the contest before being replaced by Yakou Méité on the right wing, the Bluebirds ended the game with 10 men after Dimitrios Goutas’ red card and sit just outside the relegation zone as things stand, three points above Argyle, who occupy the final relegation spot.
Next up for Omer Riza’s side is a home fixture against Hull City back at Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday (7:45pm kick-off) when Alves could make his fifth appearance for his adopted club.
At the other end, meanwhile, Hamza Choudhury’s Sheffield United sit second, taking the lead against leaders Leeds United on Monday night before losing 3-1 following two late goals at Bramall Lane. It was the midfielder's fifth Championship appearance for Chris Wilder.
It ended in defeat for the Blades.
Into Sky Bet League 2, Brandon Cover was an unused substitute in both of Fleetwood Town’s last two fixtures; drawing 0-0 with AFC Wimbledon before a 2-1 defeat at Grimsby Town, which leaves the Cod Army 14th in the fourth tier prior to travelling to face Gillingham on Tuesday night (7:45pm kick-off).
Another youngster who made a January loan move, Arjan Raikhy, remained on the bench during Tamworth’s 1-1 draw against Southend United at the weekend. Rochdale are the 15th-placed Lambs’ next opponents in the Vanarama National League at The Lamb Ground tomorrow (Tuesday) – 7:45pm kick-off.
Elsewhere, there was a fifth consecutive 90 minutes of action for Oliver Ewing at Buxton in the Vanarama National League North. It ended in defeat, however, losing 1-0 to Curzon Ashton on Saturday. Buxton are currently ninth and will now turn attention to tackling Hereford on Tuesday (7:45pm kick-off).
Ben Grist helped Worksop Town move up to second in the Northern Premier League Premier Division with a 4-2 victory over Workington, playing throughout the contest at Windsor Foodservice Stadium. A trip to Whitby Town awaits this Saturday (3pm kick-off).
Over in Scotland, fellow centre-back Tom Wilson-Brown, fresh from signing his new contract with the Foxes, was named on the bench for Kilmarnock’s 1-0 defeat at Aberdeen in the Premiership. Awaiting his debut for the club, the defender could be involved when taking on Rangers back at Rugby Park on Wednesday (8pm kick-off).
