The goalkeeper joined in with a cooking activity alongside 20 students, helping them to develop their skills while spending time speaking with them about their experiences.
He later took part in a conversation around resilience and the importance of having a supportive environment, encouraging the students to enjoy the opportunity to relax, socialise and take time away from the pressures they can often face at home.
The Young Carers programme is a mentoring and enrichment scheme, and the chance to be children for young carers in Leicestershire with adult responsibilities at home.
Staff from our charitable arm offer emotional support and help to provide pathways for young carers to balance their caregiving responsibilities with their personal development and education.
Asmir said: “Spending time with the young carers was incredibly inspiring. A lot of them take on responsibilities far beyond their years, and I can relate to some of the challenges that come with growing up quickly because of difficult circumstances.
“From personal experience, I understand how important support, stability and a sense of community can be for young people.
“Seeing the smiles on their faces and giving them the chance to simply enjoy themselves was really special.”
The Young Carers scheme is tailored to meet unique needs, ensuring young people feel valued and supported, while offering academic help through Premier League Inspires, recognising the importance of their educational success.
It also provides enrichment opportunities that allow young carers to enjoy their childhood and simply be kids again.
By creating a sense of community and belonging, the programme helps young carers thrive both in their caregiving roles and personal lives.
