The first one our No.14 has selected was on these shores, during his seven-year stint with Bristol City, where he emerged through the academy. Breaking onto the senior scene in 2011, it was during his final year at Ashton Gate.
A 4-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday moved the Robins into the Sky Bet Championship’s play-off positions – and was secured thanks to Bobby’s first-ever career hat-trick.
It came after Bristol City manager Lee Johnson had converted De Cordova-Reid into more of a striker, which resulted in him scoring more goals in that 17/18 campaign than the rest of his spell at Ashton Gate put together.
“The first memory I’d pick out is scoring a hat-trick for Bristol City on my mum’s birthday,” he tells us now, in Seagrave. “It was a nice present for her. I gave her the match ball that day, so that was nice.”
Moving onto the next one, it came a little more recently, in November 2023. Jamaica needed to win after trailing from the first leg of a CONCACAF Nations League Quarter-Final tie against Canada. Being away, though, it was turning into a tough one for the Reggae-Boyz, but De Cordova-Reid’s penalty helped them seal a 4-4 aggregate draw, advancing to the next stage on away goals – and ultimately Copa America qualification.
“The other one was playing for Jamaica,” Bobby explains. “I think it was the quarter-final of the Nations League. It was Canada away and obviously we needed to win to qualify for the Copa America.
“I scored a penalty – a crucial penalty – when were 3-1 down on aggregate. And then we got back and ended up winning the game. That was another proud moment to qualify for the Copa America with my country away in Canada.”
