Hamza Choudhury started twice for Sheffield United as their play-off place was confirmed
Ben Nelson (Oxford United) and Will Alves (Cardiff City) battled to remain in the Championship
Oliver Ewing and Ben Grist were also in action in non-league
Hamza Choudhury is preparing for the Championship play-offs after Sheffield United were confirmed to have finished third following a 2-1 defeat at Burnley on Easter Monday.
The Bangladesh international played 90 minutes as former Foxes forward Tom Cannon netted an equaliser at Turf Moor but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Clarets joining Leeds United in sealing automatic promotion, with a Josh Brownhill double the difference.
Three days earlier, the Blades had secured victory over relegation-threatened Cardiff City, with Choudhury again playing throughout at Bramall Lane and will be in contention to feature again this Friday, when visiting Stoke City’s bet365 Stadium (8pm kick-off).
Will Alves was on the opposing side during that 2-0 scoreline, starting in Yorkshire, before coming off the bench 15 minutes from time against Oxford United, a game which ended 1-1 to leave the Bluebirds – now led by Aaron Ramsey – inside the bottom three ahead of hosting West Bromwich Albion on Saturday (3pm kick-off).
Nelson and Alves faced off at Cardiff City Stadium.
Centre-back Ben Nelson also appeared throughout that stalemate, and a narrow defeat to Leeds, which sees the Yellows three points above the drop zone with two matches to play. Fourth-place Sunderland are the visitors to Kassam Stadium on Saturday (3pm kick-off).
Oliver Ewing started back-to-back Vanarama National League North matches for Buxton over the weekend, helping to defeat Chorley 1-0 prior to losing out at Alfreton Town, who the Bucks also lost to on penalties in the Derbyshire Senior Cup Final earlier in the week.
Buxton host already-relegated Warrington Town at Tarmac Silverlands Stadium in their final fixture of the campaign on Saturday (3pm kick-off) and sitting two points outside of the play-offs, there is still a chance of sneaking into the top seven places.
Defender Ben Grist helped Worksop Town to confirm their second-place finish in Northern Premier League Premier Division, playing 90 minutes of a 4-0 success over Basford United, with a trip to Blyth Spartans coming up in the last match of the regular season on Saturday (3pm kick-off) ahead of the play-offs.
