Leicester City face Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League
Facundo Buonanotte previewed the meeting at King Power Stadium
The midfielder looked ahead to Sunday’s 2pm GMT kick-off earlier this week
Both sides head into the King Power Stadium clash positioned perilously within or just outside the bottom three, with Wolves opting to make a change in the managerial hotseat this week, bringing in Vítor Pereira to replace the outgoing Gary O’Neil.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s 2pm kick-off, the Brighton & Hove Albion loanee referenced how City had to quickly put the disappointment of losing to Newcastle United behind them and look ahead to another big fixture. “It was a very tough blow for us,” the attacker said on last weekend’s reverse. “Because we were really excited and up for that game and going into it really positive, off the back of a win and a draw which were vital points for us to pick up.
A day to forget at St. James' Park.
“But occasions and games like that can happen in football. I think what we learn is that, at this standard in the Premier League, you can’t afford to make mistakes because you get caught out. However, now it’s about moving on.
“We’ve worked really hard since then on the training ground with the staff and the lads ourselves, so we’ve put it behind us and we’re ready for the next challenge.”
Transitioning into their own new era under the management of Ruud van Nistelrooy, Buonanotte spoke in glowing terms about how he has triggered a positive change within the dressing room. “We’re very happy with Ruud and his arrival,” the Argentine explained. “Day to day, in training we’re enjoying our work with him. As we say in Argentina, sometimes it’s like a breath of air and a change in climate. Every manager has their own methods and own way of working.
“Sometimes that can take time to work alongside and a new coach wants to get his ideas over and we’ve got to take those onboard as well. It will be that settling in period when we’re adapting to anything that might be different. Hopefully we can take it on board.”
Acknowledging the significance of the Wolves fixture, Buonanotte explained how the Foxes will look to use home advantage on Filbert Way, having picked up four points from a possible six on home soil during van Nistelrooy’s short tenure.
The 19-year-old added: “I speak for myself and I’m sure I can speak for the rest of the squad, my team-mates, too in that we can’t wait for this game to come around and for it to get underway. We’re really excited by it and it’s a real six-pointer.
“It’s important because we’re playing against a direct opponent, a team that is vying with us and a few others down there near the relegation zone. There’s a lot at stake and it’s a game that we need to win.
“We’re at home and have our own fans behind us, pushing us on. Anything can happen in football, but we’ll certainly be giving it our best shot to put in a good performance. It’s up to us to go all out for those three points.
“It’s a direct rival in a similar position to ourselves. Going into any game, you want to make sure you get a victory. Whoever you are playing against, it’s all important to go out and try and get those three points on any occasion.
“You can’t escape the fact that they are on the back of four defeats and their manager left in this last week. You have to remember that this is the best league in the world and it’s famous for everyone being able to beat everyone else.
“You have to be prepared for surprises. It’s a big game for us.”
