Fresh from our first victory of the campaign, the Foxes will arrive at Kingsmeadow with confidence and determination to test themselves against the very best.

Last weekend’s 1-0 success at home to Liverpool showcased the spirit and resilience in this new-look Leicester side. Playing with 10 players for much of the second half, we dug deep, ensuring home debutant Emily van Egmond’s strike delivered maximum reward on Filbert Way.

Now, attention turns to the champions, with Sunday’s game a 12pm kick-off. Ahead of this clash with Sonia Bompastor’s Blues, here’s what you need to know…

Chelsea in focus

Chelsea remain the standard-setters in the women’s game. Serial trophy-winners in recent years, they opened their season in style with a 2-1 success over Manchester City, following it up with a 3-1 win at Aston Villa.

Australian forward Sam Kerr, back from long-term injury, marked her return with a 100th Chelsea goal against Villa, underlining her importance at the heart of their attack despite being out for 20 months with an ACL injury.

Although missing influential figures such as Lauren James and Naomi Girma, Bompastor’s squad still boasts world-class talent across the pitch. Guro Reiten’s creativity and Erin Cuthbert’s energy, for instance, ensure that the Blues have threats in every area.

Their dominance over the Foxes in recent seasons also sets the backdrop for this fixture – with our squad eager to put that right this weekend at Kingsmeadow, though we did pick up a credible point in the home meeting with the London club last term courtesy of Missy Goodwin's goal.

We head into Sunday’s game with belief after that win over Liverpool. The Foxes showed defensive organisation, collective effort, and the attacking quality to hurt the Reds when the opportunity arose, playing long spells with only 10 players on the pitch.

A busy summer brought international experience and fresh energy into the group. The arrivals of Van Egmond, Celeste Boureille, Heather Payne and Olivia McLoughlin have already added strength through the spine of the team - the latter picking up the Barclays Player of the Match award last time out, while fellow Deadline Day signing Rosella Ayane, awaiting her Foxes bow, brings guile and attacking spark.

The challenge at Kingsmeadow will be considerable, but the Foxes travel with determination to show their progress, with Interim Manager Rick Passmoor crediting the players’ application last weekend.

“I’m really proud because we were comfortable in the first half,” he reflected after full-time on Filbert Way. “Liverpool came here with a plan and played really well, but we stayed in the game."
