The teenage full-back arrived at King Power Stadium on a season-long loan last month, bringing with him an impressive footballing education from New York City and Manchester City's academy systems, along with international experience for England Under-19s.

Now, with Saturday’s Carabao Cup First Round clash against Northampton Town (3pm kick-off) presenting another opportunity to make his mark in new surroundings, the youngster is eager to embrace the challenge.

Having developed in a possession-based environment throughout his career, McFarlane believes Leicester is the ideal place to continue his progression under Russell Martin.

"The playing style really intrigued me," he explains. "It suits my style the most after being at Manchester City, so I thought I could develop and thrive here."

The defender describes himself as an attack-minded full-back who enjoys driving forward, linking play and making runs beyond the opposition – qualities he feels fit naturally into Martin's philosophy.

The Manager’s influence was clear even before the move was completed, with conversations helping convince McFarlane that Leicester was the perfect next step.

Just weeks into life at Seagrave, the 18-year-old already feels at home thanks to the welcome he has received from his new team-mates and staff.

After gaining valuable minutes in last weekend's behind-closed-doors friendly against Coventry City, his focus has now turned to making a competitive debut.

"I'm obviously itching to get out there and show the fans my level," he says. "I feel, physically and mentally, that I'm ready."
