First-half goals from Yoane Wissa, Bryan Mbeumo and Christian Nørgaard put the Bees on course for victory on Filbert Way, before Fábio Carvalho's late fourth.
Ruud van Nistelrooy's men remain 19th in the Premier League, two points adrift of safety, but we are now forced to watch on as the sides around us play over the coming weekend.
Missed chances cost us dear
Jamie Vardy
It started well enough for City, creating some chances to take an early lead. Woyo Coulibaly’s close-range hit, albeit from a tight angle, was parried by Mark Flekken. Also in the first five minutes, Jamie Vardy was unfortunate not to open the scoring on the counter.
Boubakary Soumaré, on the fridges of his own box, dispossessed Mikkel Damsgaard. Bilal El Khannouss took over, releasing Vardy down the middle. With Ethan Pinnock for company, the 38-year-old rolled back the years, twisting in and out, later forcing Flekken into a solid stop.
There was another opening for Vardy later on in the half as well. Leicester were a goal down by that point, though, and he had his back to goal, on the left angle of the 18-yard box. The Foxes skipper did well to wrap his boot around the ball, getting an attempt on target, but it was straight at Flekken.
Brentford take charge
Wout Faes
That flurry of early chances didn’t unlock Brentford’s defence, and any optimism they inspired inside King Power Stadium quickly fizzled away as the Bees took control.
In the 17th minute, Damsgaard’s chip freed Wissa in behind. His shot bounced up off the floor and over Mads Hermansen. Mbeumo’s curler - from the right side - made it two for Thomas Frank’s visitors, in the 27th minute, and then Nørgaard's header extended the visitors’ lead further just five minutes later in LE2.
The damage had been done, giving Leicester a considerable deficit to claw back against a Brentford side who climb into the top half with their fourth away win in a row.
Defeat in the rain
Ruud van Nistelrooy
Facundo Buonanotte’s second-half introduction from the bench gave City a different option in attacking areas. The Argentina international did have moments to impact the game as well, on one occasion charging through the centre and sliding a neat through-ball into Vardy’s feet, although the striker was offside. Buonanotte also fired wide later on, but chances were limited as time wore on.
With the rain pelting down in the latter moments, Brentford didn’t allow Leicester to build the momentum they needed for a comeback. In fact, it was damage limitation at times. Hermansen was called upon to make an outstanding one-handed stop to halt substitute Yehor Yarmoliuk’s glancing header in one instance.
Wissa’s low delivery also flashed across the box a few minutes afterwards, crying out for a simple finish which didn’t come. Carvalho's late fourth, meanwhile, rubbed the salt into City's wounds. Leicester's situation is undoubtedly concerning at the moment, without a goal on home soil now in six matches and with just the one league win in 2025. Things must improve quickly if we are to haul ourselves away from danger.
