City are due at Gtech Community Stadium with Dawson overseeing First Team matters, supported by coaches Danny Alcock and Andy Hughes. New Manager Ruud van Nistelrooy will be in attendance in west London, ahead of assuming responsibilities on Sunday and taking over ahead of Tuesday’s visit of West Ham United to Leicester. With Premier League points on the line, Dawson spoke to the media on Friday to elaborate on the Foxes’ preparations, and offering an insight into their week in Seagrave.
Focus on the game
After learning he, Alcock and Hughes will be in charge for a testing Brentford encounter at the weekend, Dawson says all attention has been on the work on the training pitches.
“The focus has very quickly shifted onto getting back in with the players, preparing training and looking forward to the game,” he explained. “It’s been a bit of a whirlwind, as you can imagine. Your focus very quickly shifts to preparing training and looking at game plans. It’s a tough game, any Premier League game is, but especially so away at Brentford. The players have been good, they’ve been professional and worked well. That’s all we can ask of them in this situation. In midweek, we got the nod that we’d be taking the game at the weekend. We’ve worked on that proviso since Tuesday morning, since the players have been back in, and we’ll continue to do so until told otherwise.”
A tough place to go
Dawson is eager to give the players a platform to be their best selves in order to return from the capital with three crucial points. Leicester have not tasted victory in the Premier League since the dramatic last-gasp win at Southampton on 19 October.
“[Brentford] have been [fantastic],” Dawson said of the squad. “They’ve got a really good home record this year. On previous experiences of going there, it’s always been a tough place to go. The intensity of the crowd creates a really good environment for a Premier League game. We go there hopeful, like you do with any Premier League game. We think we’ve prepared well and I’m just hopeful that we can show the best version of ourselves and hopefully that’s enough to get three points. In these situations, it’s about stability. That’s the one thing that everyone in a football club wants in these situations. Once a decision’s made, everybody can quickly move on and get behind that person and move forward.”
Give a good account of ourselves
Dawson also said delivering a performance which the Blue Army can take pride in will be their best route to a third league success of the campaign.
“It's just been to give a positive account of ourselves and the Football Club,” he explained. “It’s never nice when people lose their jobs. We understand that it’s part and parcel of the industry at times. We just have to focus on making sure the players are in the best position possible to go and give a good account of themselves and put a good performance in which reflects what the fans would expect. Hopefully that’s enough to get the three points.”
