Four months earlier, the Swans had been relegated, at the end of an incredible nine years for the Welsh club. Starting in 77/78, they were promoted from the old Fourth Division to the old First Division in four seasons, had finished sixth in the top flight the campaign after, and then were relegated back to the old Fourth Division again in the four years which followed.

The below matchworn No.6 shirt was probably worn by Gary McAllister (see above), who scored in our 2-0 victory in the first leg at Vetch Field and for 43 of the 46 First Team games that season.
The shirt, advertising the Ind Coope brewery’s John Bull bitter, was the final one in their four-year sponsorship arrangement. It was manufactured by Admiral, who were based in Wigston.

It was the first City shirt design to be worn by future Club legend Steve Walsh, who moved to Filbert Street in June 1986. It was also the last Leicester shirt to be adorned by Alan Smith, who signed for Arsenal in March 1987, before being loaned back for the rest of the season, and by Steve Lynex, who moved to West Bromwich Albion.
Other notable players associated with this design included the then Club-record signing Steve Moran, Simon Morgan, Paul Ramsey, Mark Venus, John O’Neill, Russell Osman, Ali Mauchlen (pictured, top) and Ian Wilson, who won his first Scottish cap at the end of the season.
