Leicester City head to Deepdale for a meeting with Preston North End this weekend
It’s a 3pm Saturday kick-off in the Sky Bet Championship, with Foxes Hub passes available Hamza Choudhury referenced the desire to get another three points on the board
The midfielder also spoke about his past experiences of playing against Saturday’s opponents
Aiming to maintain a 100 per cent record in the league following success over Sheffield Wednesday, the midweek Carabao Cup defeat to Huddersfield Town was the first blot on Martí Cifuentes’ copybook and Choudhury hopes to ensure that result was a mere bump in the road. And as the Foxes head to Deepdale for our first away fixture of the league campaign, it’s a ground which brings back fond memories for the midfielder, having been part of the squad which clinched the second-tier title there two seasons ago.
The midfielder captained the Foxes at Huddersfield.
“The Championship is a long season and we’ve got to get the winning mentality back into the squad with this Manager,” the Academy graduate told us ahead of Saturday’s 3pm kick-off.
“That’s the beauty of it, Championship games come thick and fast, so when things go wrong, we’ve got another opportunity in a couple of days to put it right and we know that.
“We’re going to go back home tonight (Wednesday), stay at the training ground and then straight back to work tomorrow morning. The lads are all disappointed in there, the Manager is disappointed so it’s another opportunity to build back up by winning on Saturday.
“Definitely certain players and certain clubs have preferred stadiums to play in. I’m not saying you will go there and it’s a given, but before games you walk into the stadium and you can remember the feelings of the last time. You go there with confidence and if you start the game well, you put yourself in the right position to go and win the game.”
Moving on to preparations for Preston North End at LCFC Training Ground as Sky Bet Championship action returns for the Foxes on Saturday.
An established Championship team, the Lilywhites are set to offer another tough test, especially on their own patch, coming up against a team and a manager Choudhury knows well from his loan spells at Sheffield United and Watford in recent years.
“Deepdale can be a very tough place to go to, especially at the beginning of the season when they’ve got a lot of energy and are doing well under Paul Heckingbottom,” the 27-year-old explained. “They are a very organised team.
“They always start the season really well. The manager had a very good spell at Sheffield United and then last year he was good, I played against them and they are really good competitors.
“I think that’s what the Championship is about, competing in every game and if you drop off five per cent, you are going to get punished, especially when you go to places like that. The lads know we’ve got a big task ahead of us but hopefully we can go there and get the job done.”
A big Blue Army following in midweek.
Back on the road again, another strong Blue Army contingent awaits at Deepdale, following 1,827 away fans making the trip in midweek, providing a huge lift for the players on the pitch.
Choudhury added: “Even to come to Huddersfield on a Wednesday night, I think it surprised a lot of the lads how many of the Leicester fans travelled and you know it’s so nice to come out with pretty much the whole away end full.
“It makes you proud to be a Leicester player and it definitely gives you that extra boost.”
