Mads Hermansen reflects on our 4-0 loss to Brentford on Friday
Yoane Wissa, Bryan Mbeumo, Christian Nørgaard and Fábio Carvalho scored for the Bees
Hermansen says City must show focus and resolve to repair this situation
The Danish shot-stopper, recently back in the XI after injury, was involved in Friday’s 4-0 reverse to Brentford – the sixth home loss in a row for Ruud van Nistelrooy’s men. It leaves us 19th in the Premier League table and with considerable work to do if we are indeed to rectify the situation we find ourselves in and secure top-flight survival. “It’s a tough moment,” Hermansen said after full-time on Filbert Way, who also reflected on the mood at half-time. “A tough situation in general. It’s tough to lose 4-0 at home.
“We tried, as players and as a group, to lift the atmosphere to come out in a better way in the second half. I think we played with more control in the second half, but to lose 4-0 is not very good. To be in this league, we need to do so much more than that.”
The players must continue to apply themselves in training and take that work into matches, Hermansen insists, despite there being no rewards at the moment.
“We try to do it every week and we’re not getting any results at the moment,” he added. “We still have 12 games to play for the rest of the season and everything is still there for us. We’re still in it, but with performances like today, we need to realise we won’t make it. Some things need to change for the better.
“We all love to play the matches, in this league at this place. We need to bounce back, analyse, and get our heads right to go again on Thursday. I want to contribute to the team with saves which get us the points. Obviously I’m not doing that so there’s a lot of stuff we need to improve as a team and as individuals.”
