We defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 in the Premier League on Sunday
Bobby De Cordova-Reid assisted both goals, turning the game around in the second half
The forward made his first league start since August at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
The attacker provided the cross which led to Jamie Vardy’s equaliser within 60 seconds of the restart, quickly followed by picking out Bilal El Khannouss for the second - the Moroccan sweeping home to complete an excellent comeback at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Speaking post-match in the capital, the Jamaica international felt it was of vital importance to keep calm after Richarlison handed Ange Postecoglou’s side the lead on 33 minutes, especially given our recent run of results. “It will always bring us confidence that we did well in the first half and that we can create chances,” he commented on Sunday. “We’ve got to stick in the game and we understood that the first 15 minutes of the second half were going to be crucial.
“It broke to Bouba (Boubakary Soumaré) and he played a nice ball in. You know Vards, he’s active in the box, so I put it in the corridor, but whether it was him who tapped it in, or someone else, it was just in an area that he could get on the end of it, and he did what he does best and it’s a goal. “(For the second goal) I was looking for Vards initially, but that ball wasn’t on, so I had to look around and find another solution. Bilal was there and free, so I got the ball to him and it was a great finish from him. It put us 2-1 up and I think we deserved it.
“From there it was about determination and grit to see the victory. Everyone worked hard and fought for each other to get the three points. We’ve been conceding goals in that period and to score two was even better.”
A first win in nine Premier League fixtures, it has reignited belief within the camp, De Cordova-Reid revealed, with the team able to celebrate with the travelling Blue Army at full-time.
“The lads have all been working hard,” the 31-year-old continued. “We had a harsh discussion between ourselves and we went out there and everyone proved that they are willing to work for the team, for each other and the Football Club.
“It showed today and thankfully we got the three points. It was an unbelievable feeling, and I think the fans deserved that, giving them something to shout about. We showed them that we’re fighting for this Football Club and to come here and get three points is massive.
“It brings confidence going into the next game and I think maybe we’ve been lacking that. We’ve got to take every game as it comes, first and foremost by doing the basics, doing things right and then performances like this will happen.”
Making his first start in the Premier League since August, De Cordova-Reid went out there feeling that he had a point to prove, but also felt that they also showed what this group of players can deliver.
The former Fulham forward added: “I want to play every game and so does everyone else, but there’s only 11 places on the field and we’ve got a big squad. We’ve got to be ready when the chance comes.
“I’ve been working hard in training and will continue to do so. It was nice for me to start and get the win. I’ll keep on going and the rest of my team-mates will as well.”
