Thoughts from Foxes full-back James Justin ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash
Leicester City vs. Manchester United is set for a 7pm kick-off at King Power Stadium
The defender provided insight into the mindset within the camp after a tough run of form
Heading into the final 10 games of the season positioned six points from safety, there is no time to lose in the battle to beat the drop. Premier League action continues for the Foxes back on home soil this Sunday, facing Manchester United at King Power Stadium (7pm kick-off) with only one aim – to cut the gap to 17th. “It’s definitely an uphill battle with the position that we’ve put ourselves in and we’d be naïve if we didn’t say that,” the full-back admitted, speaking to the media earlier this week. “We’re not hiding away from that fact. We’ve got a lot of points to pick up in the games [remaining]. Bobby De Cordova-Reid's goal saw City take the lead in our last meeting with the Red Devils this season.
“In these next batch of games, we have to knuckle down and start getting points before it’s too late. We’re going to be doing everything in our power to do that, from what we do at home to the work that the Manager puts on for us at the training ground. We’re going to be fighting for our lives.
“From what I see day in, day out and the quality each individual brings to the team, I believe we can do the job and stay up, because there’s no point if you don’t have the belief. The biggest thing is the camaraderie between everyone and how everyone is on the same page right now.”
Despite some promising signs within the performance produced against Chelsea last time out, we came away from Stamford Bridge empty handed following Marc Cucurella’s second-half goal, unable to find the net for a fifth consecutive league fixture.
A familiar story this term, having been defeated in the five February fixtures after victory at Tottenham Hotspur, the defender is keen to cut out errors at both ends of the pitch and rectify worrying trends.
The 27-year-old continued: “For the majority of the season it’s been similar to this with not a lot in the game. No team was dominating too much and then it’s one and two quickly, usually after half-time. We’ve had our struggles this year and come away from the game thinking: ‘How are we not picking up points against any of these sides?’
“It’s definitely a hard one to put your finger on. It’s one thing keeping the ball out of your net and scoring goals, we know that, and obviously we have individual mistakes from myself and whoever else, but other than that, it’s difficult to see where we are blatantly going wrong.
"After last weekend, obviously it’s still zero points from another game, so you have to look at it like that, because it’s the business end of the season, and we need to be getting threes and ones. Without those, we won’t have a chance.
“If we can go away to a place like Chelsea, who are aspiring to be top four this season and put in that performance, there will be points available for us, but we have to take them. Obviously with 30 points available, we’re just looking at 17th and trying to catch them up before we run out of games. That’s the job at hand.”
