Leicester City were beaten 2-1 at Preston North End on Saturday
Jeremy Monga’s first goal for the Club was not enough for any points
Jordan Ayew says City must respond quickly to two successive reverses
Working hard and staying positive is our route to more successful results, he says
Although Alfie Devine’s opener for the hosts was levelled at Deepdale by 16-year-old Jeremy Monga’s first goal for the Club – becoming our youngest-ever goalscorer in the process – Milutin Osmajić struck with five minutes remaining to confirm our first 25/26 league loss.
Ayew started up front for the Foxes in Lancashire and explained his frustration at full-time, after we also exited the Carabao Cup at Huddersfield Town on Wednesday.
“Obviously everyone is down, nobody likes to lose,” the Ghana international said. “It’s been a bad week, but we take it on the chin. We’re professionals, in a season there’s ups and downs. It’s still early.
“There’s a lot of things we need to improve on, and we’ll just get back to work and improve on all the areas, keep on pushing, and try to turn things around.
“It was a game where we played a bit into their hands for them to be hitting channel balls.
“It’s still early days, so we’ll keep on working. The most important thing for us is that, in May, we’ll all be happy. There’s 44 games, there’s many games, so it’s good it happens now so we can correct things quickly.”
Using this disappointment as a motivational tool for future matchdays is now the ambition, with a third consecutive away trip to Charlton Athletic this Saturday.
“That is the goal, that is the main thing,” Ayew reiterated. “We have to stay positive.
“We did some really good things, some things we didn’t do too much, but to become a successful team, you need to go through some bumps and that’s what we faced today. Hopefully this is the last one in the season.
“After a defeat, nobody likes to lose, so there’s always going to be a bit of critiques. It’s all part of the game and we’ll take it. Our main goal is still the same.
“We need to make sure we’ll be ready for the next games. There’s a game coming next week against Charlton and we need to make sure that we start picking up points, for us to have a good feeling, and confidence – to bring the smile onto everyone’s faces.”
