Having emerged through Group E in second place, the Red Devils were drawn against Didier Deschamps' side in the first knockout round in Dusseldorf, where a late Jan Vertonghen own goal, with just five minutes of normal time remaining, sent Domenico Tedesco's side out of the tournament.

Leicester City defender Faes was once again in the starting XI and, as extra-time loomed, looked to have kept the former World Champions at bay, but for an unfortunate deflection from substitute Randal Kolo Muani's strike proved to be the winner.

That ends the Foxes' involvement in the competition, with Denmark's Jannik Vestergaard, Victor Kristiansen and Mads Hermansen having lost out to Germany at the same stage on Saturday.
