The 2026 FIFA World Cup has started for our Foxes
Harry Souttar led Australia to a first win of the tournament on Sunday morning
Bilal El Khannouss also played for Morocco, who drew with Brazil
It’s been a perfect start to this summer’s World Cup for Australia, who beat Turkey on Sunday morning, with a goal in either half confirming a 2-0 victory.
Leicester centre-half Souttar captained his nation, and played the full game, with Nestory Irankunda of Watford opening the scoring on 27 minutes.
A winning start for Souttar and Australia.
Connor Metcalfe then doubled their lead on 75 minutes at BC Place, Vancouver in Canada, which now leaves the Socceroos second in Group D with three points after the first round of fixtures.
They will face the hosts and current group leaders, USA, on Friday evening, a 8pm kick-off in Seattle.
El Khannouss was the other City player to get his World Cup campaign up and running, with the Morocco midfielder starting, and playing 80 minutes in a 1-1 draw with Brazil.
A draw for Morocco in their opening game.
Ismael Saibari broke the deadlock on 21 minutes, when the PSV Eindhoven forward sent a delightful chip over Alisson, before the scores were brought back level after half-an-hour through Vinícius Júnior.
Now second in Group C, they face Scotland, who lead the standings after a win against Haiti, on Friday 19 June (11pm kick-off) at Boston Stadium.
