Jutta Rantala has been involved in training for LCFC Women
We begin the 25/26 WSL season at Manchester United on Sunday
Coach Rick Passmoor says it's a 'positive step forward' for the Finland striker
Missy Goodwin will not be involved in the opener at Leigh Sports Village
We head to Leigh Sports Village to take on the Red Devils in a 12pm BST kick-off on Sunday as Rick Passmoor leads the coaching team on an interim basis.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Passmoor provided an update on the fitness concerns within the squad. Rantala, who signed a new deal with the Club this summer, was involved in UEFA Women’s EURO 2025, but missed a considerable amount of last term through injury. She has netted 11 goals and contributed seven assists in 34 appearances for the Foxes.
Missy Goodwin is not ready to be included in the squad for Sunday.
“We’ve had, this week, a phased return to training,” Passmoor said on Rantala’s fitness. “After I go from here, we’re having an meeting to do with player availability and minutes. It’s been a positive step forward for her to be involved with the team.
“Not only physically but also mentally, to be in and around all the team, rather than training on your own, it’s a positive step for her. I’m sure she’ll be wanting to get back onto the field, in the starting XI, in the coming weeks.”
Fellow forward Missy Goodwin, meanwhile, is definitely out of Sunday’s visit to Man Utd, with Passmoor working closely with the players in training who could be included. “She’s a definite no,” he added. “She’s not available at this moment in time. We’re working with the players that are fit and available to ensure that they’re in the best shape ready for the game on Sunday.”
