  • Five Leicester City scholarships available to home applicants living in selected areas of Leicestershire
  • Initiative is a shared commitment to breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for young people
  • Scholarships were officially launched at LCFC Training Ground in Seagrave last week
Five Leicester City scholarships are available to home applicants living in selected areas of Leicestershire, including parts of Coalville and Hinckley, as well as Leicester city communities such as New Parks and Beaumont Leys.
Delivered with support from King Power, the initiative underlines a shared commitment to breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for young people, regardless of background.
The Club and the University have worked closely together to support children and young people in the region for a number of years, including the Children’s Health Partnership, launched in 2018.
Leicester City Chief Executive Kevin Davies said: “We are proud to support opportunities that can make a real difference for young people across our city and county.
“Through this collaboration with the University of Leicester, we want to help remove some of the barriers that can stand in the way of higher education and support talented local students to take the next step in their journey.”
Professor Nishan Canagarajah, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Leicester, added: “We are incredibly proud to be working with Leicester City Football Club to break down the barriers to education and opportunity.
“Social mobility and inclusion are priorities that are especially urgent in Leicester, the country’s first ‘superdiverse’ city, and at our University, where many come from low-income households.
“In awarding us the title of 2025 Daily Mail University of the Year, judges were particularly impressed by the University’s social mobility initiatives and programmes to support underrepresented students into higher education.”
Alongside financial support, successful applicants will also benefit from their association with Leicester City, with opportunities to engage in community initiatives and attend events at King Power Stadium.
The scholarships were officially launched at LCFC Training Ground last week, with Luke Thomas, Louis Page and Olabade Aluko joining students from WQE College at the event.
Applications close on Thursday 14 May, 2026, with successful candidates set to begin their studies at the University of Leicester in September.
Applicants are encouraged to check whether they live in a qualifying area (IMD Q1 or IMD Q2) before applying, using the UK Government’s postcode checker.
