City fans come from far and wide, and few have travelled further to support the Foxes than Chak Tse.
Becoming a supporter in late 2015, captivated by the story taking shape in Leicester that year – which saw the Foxes dismiss pre-season title odds of 5,000/1 to be crowned Premier League champions – the Leicester City Football Club Supporters Group Hong Kong soon brought him closer to other fans from the region.
What started out as a Facebook page has developed into a close-knit group of more than 100 members, all hailing from the East Asia country.
“Well, with that timing, obviously it was because of our legendary run towards the league win,” Chak said, explaining how he began following the Foxes. “I loved the spirit of the team and sticked with it until now.
“Some of us studied in Leicester when we were younger and fell in love with the team, but a lot of us became fans 20 to 30 years ago – they are the OGs!”
Then, five years ago, Chak made the long trip from Hong Kong to Leicester, attending his first-ever Leicester game on Filbert Way, a win over Aston Villa, since developing a connection to players who remain with us to this day.
“I loved Ricardo Pereira soon after he joined,” he added. “To me he’s not always on the news, but he has superb technique, electric pace, leadership qualities, and occasional banger goals. It’s tough to do all these as a wing-back!”
Hailing from an area of Hong Kong called Tin Shui Wai, Chak describes the residential district as ‘somewhat like Belgrave in Leicestershire’, just with 50 times more people. “We all live in 40-storey buildings and you can almost never recognise your neighbours as there's too many of them!”
Although finding it difficult to follow club teams in his country, he is always able to tune in to watch the Foxes live.
“Most of the venues are quite far from where I live, and the linkage between the team and the community is weaker here than in England,” he added. “But, of course, I love our national team.
“If it's the Premier League, then we buy the TV subscription. We go to the official website and watch the live stream, sometimes together with friends.”
