Unbeaten in our last three, there has been a two-week break between games, with the season’s first round of international fixtures passing through the schedule.
Now heading home for the first time since early October, the Gunners will be the ones making the trip to the East Midlands.
Back together as a full squad after national duty, the Manager spoke to the media in the build-up to our clash with the current UEFA Women’s Champions League holders.
Work during the international break
Based at Belvoir Drive during the break.
Once our internationals had jetted off around the world to join up with their respected nations, it left the training ground feeling a little empty.
But Passmoor believes his coaching team, and the players that remained, focused on important details to help further develop the philosophy put in place.
“I’ve experienced a few over the years, but what we utilised was the unit and individual development work,” the Manager explained. “We used it productively for the players that stayed here during the break, and I think they got a lot from it.
“You’ve got to enjoy every moment you step onto the grass and having that opportunity to work for seven or eight days, looking at the players and their needs, their powers and how that can positively affect our philosophy and game plan.
“The whole squad are in a good frame of mind and are looking forward to the remaining games leading up to Christmas.”
Keeping the work rate high
Currently sat ninth in the division, with five points from six games, Passmoor looks at every fixture as a chance to increase that tally, but believes in order to do that, each player must play their part.
“What you look at now is the dynamic of the WSL; it’s a top league,” he continued. “Every time, each player has to do the minimum of work rate and applying themselves 100 per cent.
“Now we have all this support wrapper around the player so when you look at Leicester City and where we are, it’s non-negotiable.
“We haven’t got the top four squad yet. We’re developing and we’re improving but when I look at the whole squad, how they deliver on a daily basis is exactly what you need in a professional environment.”
Enjoying what you do
The ever-growing top flight of English football is demanding more from each of the 12 clubs as they all fight to retain their WSL status.
Among all the background noise and outside pressure, the Manager urges his team to remain focused, trust in each other, and above all else, enjoy their football, as we prepare to face one of the country's elite sides.
“When you look at the history of the football club, they (Arsenal) are fantastic,” Passmoor added. “They have set the bar so high and other clubs are scrambling to get to the same level that they set.
“It’s a pleasure to be in the league and to play against them. We want to ensure that we go through the process, our principles of play and of course we’re looking forward to it.
“It’s a mentality you need (underdog mentality), and you need to be difficult to beat. You need to work as a team but the noise from early season had us as favourites for relegation.
“We’ve tried to change the narrative in that, and we don’t listen to that outside noise, we just get on with our job.
“Not only is it a joy coming into this building every day, but you look at the games, teams and players that we’re playing against, and it can’t be more exciting.
“You’ve got King Power Stadium, you’ve got Arsenal, and this is where we want to be. We just need to enjoy it.”
