We were beaten 4-1 by Arsenal Women on Sunday afternoon
Alessia Russo and Stina Blackstenius were on the scoresheet for the Gunners
Noémie Mouchon scored a second-half goal at King Power Stadium
Rick Passmoor delivered his verdict on the WSL defeat at full-time
Falling to a 4-1 defeat at King Power Stadium at the weekend, the Manager doesn’t believe it will define LCFC Women’s season, but did challenge the players on how they will respond to it. A relentless first-half display from the current UEFA Women’s Champions League holders gave the Gunners early distance, but Passmoor was keen to turn the loss into an opportunity to progress.
“What we’ve got to look at is the game across 95 minutes, and ask did we play to our game plan, did we play to our strengths, and did we deliver?” Passmoor asked post-match. “The players understand that we didn’t match what we’ve been putting in so far this season.
The Manager urges his side to learn from the Arsenal defeat.
“There’s a great load of learning that we can take from it and hopefully implement into next weekend’s game. We were playing against an excellent team and what I was happy with was how we responded in the second half.
“Of our seven games, this is our biggest learning curve and it’s now about learning from it. Can we utilise what we’ve learnt in a positive manner?”
The Manager went on to talk about how we can implement these lessons into the everyday, stating that it starts during the week in training, before translating to what plays out on the pitch at the weekend.
“We, as a group behind the scenes, need to look at our training habits, how we conduct ourselves around the training ground and making sure we’re on it from the first minute,” Passmoor continued.
“We wanted to start on the front foot and take the game to the opposition. Obviously that didn’t materialise, and the opposition were ruthless and clinical within their actions.
“We need to build that bridge over a period of time to be able to compete on a regular basis at the level. The next bit for us over the mid/longer term is to be more consistent with our game.
“It doesn’t define us (the result), and we need to stick to our processes and principles, but I’m looking forward to working with the players this week to get us back on track for next weekend.”
The last note was for Noémie Mouchon, who from the bench was able to show real character in our frontline, and notch her second goal of the season since returning from a long-term injury.
Hinting that the French forward is knocking on the door for a WSL start, Passmoor reiterated that it is on each player to prove themselves during the week, to earn a spot on the teamsheet.
Mouchon found the net at King Power Stadium.
He added: “When you look at what she (Mouchon) achieved today, it’s a credit to her, a credit to the medical staff to get to this level.
“We’ve been working with her at training to up her minutes she can get during the games, so when you saw her in the second half, she did add value, and I’ll be looking at the whole squad in training to show me why they should be in the starting XI.”
