  • Chelsea were the victors over LCFC Women on Sunday afternoon
  • The only goal at Kingsmeadow came from Aggie Beever-Jones
  • Foxes goalkeeper Janina Leitzig gave her reaction post-match
  • The German shot-stopper made some incredible stops in the capital
Only one goal separated LCFC Women from the current Barclays Women’s Super League champions, and a major reason for such a tight affair, was the impressive performance from Leitzig.
The former Bayern Munich ‘keeper made seven stops in the game, putting on a good show in front of a packed out crowd at Kingsmeadow, but remaining ever humble, she pointed out it was a team effort that led to an improved performance.

“Honestly, I’m so proud of the team,” Leitzig stated. “We conceded early, but everyone fought so hard. We were unlucky to concede that early, but we had chances.
“I’m just so proud of the performance.”
Since her debut in January of 2023, Leitzig has gone on to make over 50 appearances for the Foxes, keeping 10 clean sheets, and the 26-year-old believes the best is yet to come.
“To be fair, I’m always happy to help the team with saves, but today it was a team effort,” Our No.1 continued. “The defenders helped me as well with blocks.

“I don’t think anyone sticks out today, it was just a good team effort from everyone.
“We have two really important home games now (in the WSL) against Tottenham and Everton and obviously we want to win these games.
“We have been focusing on ourselves, we need to keep improving and if we play like we did today, there will be a lot to be happy about.”
