Shannon O’Brien reacts to a 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace
Both sides scored in injury time at VBS Community Stadium
LCFC Women are two points off a best points tally recorded in the WSL
Heading into the weekend, Leicester sat seven points above relegated Palace, but after the game started, it looked a difficult task to increase that lead.
Disappointed to not take advantage at VBS Community Stadium and hit a record points tally in the Barclays Women’s Super League; O’Brien believes the Foxes only have themselves to blame.
“I don’t think we were great or started very well,” the striker opened by saying. “We knew coming into this game that they [Palace] would play without pressure having already been relegated.
City were held to a draw last weekend.
“We knew there was going to be a fight and that the scoreline last week (losing 7-1 to West Ham United) wasn’t a true reflection of the game so we had to play properly and not underestimate them.
“We were lucky to go in 1-0 at half-time, but if we would’ve played our game, we would’ve maybe made more of it.
“We deserved a point but probably nothing more from the game.”
Having come on as a second-half substitute, before scoring what she thought be the game-winning goal, our No.27 went through the emotions on a tough day in Sutton.
Calling in a third goal of the campaign.
“It was a bit of a rollercoaster,” O’Brien explained. “I thought I was coming off five minutes before because I got injured so it was up and down, but I’m glad I scored, but sadly it didn’t amount to anything at the end of the game.
“I think it’s a missed opportunity before the game started but once it did start, I don’t think we can complain because we weren’t good enough.
“It’s our fault for not getting the win so we must focus on next week now to go and get the win and break the points record that we’re after.”
