Two goals inside the final 10 minutes from Nikita Parris and Kadidiatou Diani saw London City take the points, as we started our League Cup campaign with a home loss.

Rick Passmoor made four changes to the side that was beaten by Ipswich Town last time out, with Libby Bance and Araya Dennis coming in to the XI, along with Poppy Pritchard and Denny Draper, who both made their first senior starts for Leicester.

An even first half

In action at Meadow Lane.

With City keeping the majority of the same side from the weekend, it was clear that London City wanted to put out an equally strong side, similar to the one that has started their Barclays WSL1 campaign, with the likes of Mary Earps, Parris and two-time Ballon D'or winner, Alexia Putellas, all starting in Nottingham.

While the visitors looked to control possession, we were holding strong in defence, and kept the London heavyweights at bay for the first 45 minutes, with the aid of 'keeper Katie Keane, who pulled off some great saves to keep us level.

One worry will be the withdrawal of defender Simone Sherwood, who was replaced by Sarah Mayling, forcing Asmita Ale into a centre-half position, which is hopefully a precaution ahead of the league trip to Newcastle United this weekend.

London City take the win

Two second half goals made the difference in Nottingham.

Throughout the second half, the pattern was very much the same, with the Lionesses controlling most of possession and Leicester looking to hit them on the break through the pace of Dennis and Pritchard on the wings.

Hanging on for so long, the quality of the top tier side came through, first of all when Parris broke the deadlock before Diani added a second with a strike into the top left-hand corner.

The result leaves us towards the bottom end of the standings after matchweek one in the competition, with an away trip to Watford up next in the cup, on Saturday 17 October.

Heading north to Newcastle

We take on Newcastle away from home this weekend.

Following Wednesday night's result, our attention turns back to the league duties when we head up the M1 to face Newcastle in our second away match of the season, having beaten Sheffield United on the opening day at Bramall Lane.

With six points collected from a possible nine, we'll be looking for a third win in four WSL2 games, to build on our fourth-place position.
