Eight new signings and 14 senior departures over the summer have meant that the work has been ongoing over the break to ensure Rick Passmoor and his coaching staff have a side capable of competing in this year’s WSL2.

Proud of the work done by the Club, the Manager delved deeper into what has been happening behind the scenes, as we set our sights on our first test of the season against Sheffield United this Sunday…

Building a philosophy

Our WSL2 campaign starts on Sunday.

The whole operation started with redefining our style of play and, with it, what players and characteristics we’d need in the group to achieve our aims.

“We’ve been working hard over the summer,” Passmoor explained. “We wanted to have a style of play that would include our traditions and non-negotiables, but then be able to speak to and attract new players.

“That includes staffing as well, but we want to be a lot more comfortable in possession, and we’ve had a lot of days here that focus on our key messages and objectives, so that we have a key framework for everyone, including on the field of play.

“It’s given us an opportunity to re-evaluate and plan forwards, rather than just go from game to game, but instead look at a longer-term plan. It’s been full-on behind the scenes to make sure this plan reaches fruition.”

Players with passion

We recruited eight new signings over the summer.

The Manager went on to explain that he wanted a side that had a hunger and desire to learn and win football matches.

That has been exemplified by our recruitment, which included bringing in the likes of Poppy Pritchard, Jess Ziu and Leah Eddie, as well as Sarah Mayling, who joined us on a permanent deal following her loan move to Filbert Way.

Passmoor continued: “We wanted to look at what these players would bring, performance-wise, to the pitch, but also the character they are bringing to the Club and their opportunity to fulfil their potential.

“We’ve looked at the younger age ranges, between 21 and 26, where players have got a lot of passion and a lot of thirst for knowledge and growth, so that has been instrumental in our approach to signings.

“When we look at our game model, we also wanted to make sure they fitted into that and what they could bring in a technical model. We spoke to people around the player to make sure those that come in have the resilience and ambition that match what we’re trying to do here.”

Represent the Club with pride

Providing a style of football the fans can be proud of.

After the disappointing end to last season, Passmoor knows that the Club needs to rally together to make amends, and that starts this Sunday at Bramall Lane.

Urging supporters to get behind the new-look Leicester, he hopes people will start to see development within the team across the course of the season.

“We want to be competitive and be the best we possibly can,” the Manager added. “Represent the Club with pride and show unity and resilience because we know the game fluctuates every day.

“Every game is different, but we want to make sure we’re staying true to our values, and then we can move forward in terms of how we play and how we entertain.

“We’ve had good support from within the Club, but those outside the building mean so much as well. We want to put the fans on the edge of their seats and make them proud, because we’ll need them beside us as we travel all around the country, in search of our first aim to return to WSL1.”
