Following a record-breaking finish last year, this season's test would be no easier, as bottom place will have a play-off against the WSL2’s third-placed team for inclusion in next year’s top flight.
However, City have started well and head into the festive period with nine points, almost half of our record tally, which puts us ninth in the table, above Everton, West Ham United and six points ahead of Liverpool, who hold up the rest of the league.
Shannon O'Brien is our top goalscorer at the halfway stage.
Included in that points collection have been two wins, both at home, and both resulting in a 1-0 scoreline; first of all, when Emily van Egmond, who signed from Birmingham City in the summer, scored the only goal against Liverpool back in September.
Flash forward to mid-December, and it was newly-promoted London City Lionesses who would fall victim to Rick Passmoor’s side.
A Shannon O’Brien second half goal gave us the lead at King Power Stadium, but the match wasn’t without some late drama in the form of a 97th minute penalty for the away side; Janina Leitzig called into action to save Kosovare Asllani’s spot-kick.
McLoughlin is one of six players to make her Leicester debut this season.
Our other points have included draws against Everton, West Ham and Aston Villa, the latter making up our third WSL clean sheet of the campaign.
The Foxes were also involved in the Subway Women’s League Cup, winning two of the three group stage games, against Ipswich Town and London City once more.
An unfortunate 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace at the final hurdle resulted in our cup journey going no further, but there were still positives to take, such as Sammy Kaczmar’s first senior goal, which came against Ipswich in September.
Continuing with stats, O’Brien is our top scorer, having found the net four times in all competitions, three of which came in her last four league outings as she heads into the break in red hot form.
Jutta Rantala and Noémie Mouchon also have two goals each, but spent the last few weeks out injured, and while our Finnish goalscorer will have much longer to wait, Mouchon’s return against London City was met by a warm welcome by the Leicester faithful, who look forward to seeing more of her in the New Year.
New signings Olivia McLoughlin and Celeste Boureille have fitted in well to the team, while Heather Payne, Cecily Wellesley-Smith, Van Egmond and Rosella Ayane also made their Leicester City debuts.
After a well-earned Christmas break, the Foxes return in January to, hopefully, pick up where we left off, when we taking on Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday 11 January (12pm GMT kick-off), before facing them again a week later, as we kickstart our Adobe Women’s FA Cup journey with a fourth round clash against the London outfit.
