LCFC Women beat London City Lionesses 1-0 last weekend
Shannon O’Brien scored the only goal in the second half
Janina Leitzig pulled off a late penalty save at King Power Stadium
Foxes Manager Rick Passmoor reacted to the full-time result
The perfect Christmas present for Leicester City fans was a 1-0 win on Sunday afternoon which means LCFC Women will spend the festive break ninth in the Barclays Women’s Super League, six points above bottom-placed Liverpool. Wishing that the late drama wasn’t needed, Passmoor spoke about the result, and how much three points means to this group as we hit the halfway stage.
A final Filbert Way strike of 2025.
“Dramatic at the end, but to end the year with a home win is amazing and will send the fans home happy,” the Manager explained.
“There were parts of our game that we’ve been working on, especially out of possession and how to work as a group.
“The counterattacking was there when we needed it, but I thought dropping Emily [van Egmond] into the midfield helped us, so I’m really pleased to end the year with a home win, but it doesn’t define us and there’s still work to be done.”
Admitting that conceding a penalty was the only downfall in an otherwise immaculate defensive performance, the Manager gave credit to the players for coming together to get the job done.
Crucial at both ends of the pitch.
“Until the end, when I thought all that hard work had been lost,” Passmoor continued, “I thought we did very well against a good team, who are good in possession, create overloads and create openings.
“Especially inside the last 15 minutes but we withstood that, and we defended really well as a group.
“We created chances, and probably enough to put the game to bed, but again credit to the group of players that we’ve got, both on the pitch and on the bench.
“We’re creating an environment and a culture where the players want to play for Leicester City.”
