LCFC Women’s safety in the Barclays Women’s Super League could be confirmed by the time we kick a ball on Sunday, should Crystal Palace fall to defeat against West Ham United in the early kick-off.
Nevertheless, Miquel and the Foxes have been working hard at base to prepare for action against the Citizens, preferring to think that fate is in our own hands. In the build-up to the game, the Manager discussed the following points in her press conference at Belvoir Drive…
‘Worked on the simple things’
City lost out at the Emirates.
Last time out saw us on the receiving end of a 5-1 scoreline at the Emirates, as an in-form Arsenal side took no prisoners with their attacking play.
While adamant that our season will not be defined by a loss to the Gunners in their own backyard, Miquel has focused on the learning points to put into place at home this weekend.
“A 5-1 loss to Arsenal is not what we wanted but also not surprising with the quality they have,” the Manager told the media. “You try to do your best in every game, but we definitely struggled.
“But even though we struggled, we could’ve reduced the amount of goals we took so we worked on that this week because I think it was one of our strengths in the first phase.
“Now we are scoring more but have the problem further back, so the intention is to keep scoring more but reduce the number of goals we take.
“We worked on very simple things this week that we know we have to be consistent with in our organisation so that we don’t give the opponents such easy goals to score.”
‘Pleased with her performances’
Missy Goodwin has three goals this season.
Discussion moved on to young winger Missy Goodwin, who came on in north London in our last fixture, marking her return after a spell on the sidelines with an illness.
Recently clocking up 75 appearances for Leicester at the age of 22-years-old is an impressive feat, and the former Stade de Reims Manager sees potential within the young Lioness.
“I think that she is a great player who has been really consistent,” Miquel stated. “It’s a season where we have really struggled up front and she has stepped up.
“I would say she is the one, of all the forwards, who has had the most minutes so far and she has been doing well.
“We are pleased with her performances in and out of possession and she is a player we like to have here at Leicester.”
‘It won’t be easy’
Man City are the next to come to Filbert Way.
Looking ahead to Sunday and the challenge Man City will bring with them to Filbert Way, Miquel knows that it won’t be an easy task to keep up an undefeated home record that currently spans back to November but hopes her side can put in a good account of themselves.
She added: “They are going to look slightly different this week, so we need to try and anticipate how they are going to try and play.
“Even though they have injuries, they are a team with a good squad overall who will want to prove themselves, so it won’t be easy at all.
“We’ve focused on us this week. We want to be stronger defensively and make sure we keep the threats against us to a minimum.
“We want to put in the best performance we can on Sunday.”
