LCFC Women lost out 3-0 to Manchester City on Sunday afternoon
Khadija Shaw scored twice for the Citizens at King Power Stadium
Rick Passmoor analysed the performance and believes there are positives to build on
Sunday’s loss leaves us 10th in the Barclays Women’s Super League, with six points accumulated over that time, while Man City increased their lead over the rest of the group at the top. Level with the Citizens for the majority of the game, the Manager was pleased with elements of the performance he saw from his side on Filbert Way.
Leicester conceded three late on to Man City.
“We’re playing against a top team who are full of confidence and internationals,” Passmoor explained post-match. “Not just in the starting XI, but the full squad, so we changed a few bits in terms of our principles of play.
“We looked at how we would play, because we knew we wouldn’t have much of the ball, so it’s about how we show resilience, and what you’ve got to be proud of is the 70 minutes or so it was working.
“Eventually they found a way, which is what a good team with good players do, but at the moment, I’m pleased with the contribution of the whole team and their efforts.
“We wanted to show more identity today, and I believe we did. Of course we’re disappointed, but we move on to next week.”
Detailing the good aspects of the Foxes performance, the former West Ham United assistant manager understands that in a top league like this one, the small factors can make all the difference.
“We were dominating in terms of our out of possession (in the first half), and making life very difficult for them so they changed to play against that,” Passmoor continued.
“Our conversations were to try and keep the spaces tight, we were pleased with what we were doing. We wanted to stay compact and not get overloaded centrally and we also defended the cross really well.
“But now we get back on the training pitch, put some of our learnings from today into practice and go back at it next week.”
Passmoor urged his team to build on the positives.
One game remains for Leicester before the festive break, when London City Lionesses, this year’s newly promoted side, make the trip to Filbert Way.
Keeping morale high in the camp, Passmoor believes, is key to progression in the league, and encourages his side to remain focused on the good things, heading into a new week.
He added: “The players always deserve credit for their professionalism and how they act behind the scenes. We’re always trying to push them as a group.
“I spoke about a long term gameplan, to make sure Leicester remain a WSL1 team for years to come, and of course the players are disappointed, but when you’re playing Man City, that’s a credit to them on the pitch.”
