Our first, and only, win of the season has come on Filbert Way this term when we beat Liverpool back in September, but to take any points off of a side at the top of the table, the Foxes must perfect in every aspect of our game this weekend.
Speaking to the media at Belvoir Drive earlier on in the week, the Manager discussed getting back to form after the international break, this weekend’s opponents and the longer term vision for the team…
‘You’ve got to keep going’
Passmoor spoke about going back to basics.
Last time out, we were on the back of a 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, which resulted in our elimination from the Subway Women’s League Cup. Wanting to put that result behind us, and get back to winning ways, the Manager spoke about what it takes to right the wrongs.
“The break is only good if you get straight back on the bike again,” Passmoor explained. “If you fall off it, you’ve got to keep getting on it and go again.
“On a Monday, everyone goes on about the highlights and the quality this league is bringing now, and we need to stay focused on our objectives.
“You saw aggression from us in September and October, we are disappointed with certain parts of the games we played in November and therefore we want to ensure we finish the season on a high.
“We want to show our identity and how we can play, and if we do that, we’ll get something from the two games ahead.”
‘Represent the Club in the best way’
Heading back home this Sunday.
This Sunday’s opponents travel to the East Midlands on hot form, having lost just once this season, against Chelsea on the opening day of the campaign. But remaining positive, the Manager is asking his team to play with fight and desire, believing results will follow.
“I’m excited to be playing top level football at King Power Stadium; playing against top individuals, it should empower you as a player to be as competitive as you can,” Passmoor continued.
“Players have been away on international duties, not just us, but across the WSL and it’s how we come back and making sure the players’ mindset are on Leicester City and who we’re playing against.
“In the build-up to the game we look at how we want to play, both in and out of possession, so that we can represent the Club in the best possible way come Sunday afternoon.”
‘The start of a long road’
Looking beyond this season, Passmoor went on to explain the long-term visions of the Club, and how the short term can have an impact.
He added: “The realism is that this season doesn’t define us but is the start of a longer road. We want to retain our WSL1 status, and we want to improve that view on Leicester City so that we’re seen as a regular and competent side in this division.
“Not only to attract new players and to retain current players, but to have a vibrant youth system that can then supply players for the future.
“It’s a very holistic view that we’re taking, it’s not just about 90 minutes, but we know that they are important to our long-term ends.”
