Sophie Howard, Nelly Las and Amya Hammond-McLean attend International Women’s Day celebration
Event brought together some of those who have played a role in the growth of the women’s game at Leicester City
International Women’s Day is held annually on 8 March
Held in the Walkers Hall, the event brought together key organisations and individuals to celebrate some of those who have played a role in the growth of the women’s game at Leicester City, both on and off the pitch.
Younger members of our LCFC Women Academy were in attendance at the event.
There were 200 people in attendance, including various grassroots clubs from across the county, along with representatives from Leicester City in the Community, Leicestershire & Rutland County FA, Freedom4Girls and Her Game Too.
A key highlight of the evening was the players' panel, hosted by Jade Morgan, who led an insightful discussion with LCFC Women defender Sophie Howard and Academy graduates Nelly Las and Amya Hammond-McLean. Supporters were given the opportunity to ask questions to the panel.
The trio offered attendees a deeper understanding of their journeys in football and posed for photos and signed autographs with guests following the event.
Howard said: “It was a fantastic celebration and great to see so many people coming together to celebrate the role of women in football.
“Events like these not only highlight the progress we’ve made but also inspire the next generation to keep pushing forward. It’s an honour to be part of a Club that continues to support and uplift women in the game."
Meeting members of the Blue Army.
Entertainment on the night was provided by the steel pan band at Forest Lodge Academy, who have worked with Leicester City in the Community on the Premier League Primary Stars programme for almost a decade.
Primary Stars is an initiative that harnesses the power of football clubs to inspire children to stay active, nurture their wellbeing and improve essential life skills.
