  • Leicester City in the Community staff and participants raised £581 for PROSTaid Cancer
  • Silver Foxes and Walking Football participants took part in the Melton Mowbray parkrun 5K
  • Participants heard about lived experiences and the importance of regular health checks
The fundraising was supported by Health and Wellbeing Coach Dave Eassom, with Silver Foxes and Walking Football participants taking part in the 5K event as part of an initiative led by Michael Kapur OBE, CStJ, FRSA, Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire and Chair of Trustees for Leicester City in the Community.
Kapur has supported the Melton Mowbray parkrun in aid of different charities, with Leicester City in the Community supporting the event through the involvement of Silver Foxes and Walking Football participants.

The fundraising provided an opportunity for participants to come together, stay active and support an important cause, while also helping to encourage conversations around men’s health.
As part of the initiative, Bob White from PROSTaid Melton recently visited a Silver Foxes session to speak with participants about prostate cancer, share his lived experience and highlight the importance of getting regular health checks.
The session provided an opportunity for participants to ask questions, learn more about prostate cancer and have open conversations around men’s health.
Health and Wellbeing Coach Dave Eassom said: “It was really important for us to support PROSTaid and help raise awareness of prostate cancer. Having Bob come along and share his lived experience gave our participants the opportunity to have some really important conversations about men’s health and the importance of getting checked regularly.
“I’m really pleased that, together, we were able to raise £581 for such an important cause.”

Following the fundraising, Leicester City in the Community staff and Silver Foxes participants presented a cheque for £581 to PROSTaid.
The Silver Foxes programme provides older adults with opportunities to stay active, build friendships and remain connected within their communities through football and a range of activities.
The fundraising and visit from PROSTaid also highlighted the wider role of the programme in creating opportunities for participants to access information, share experiences and discuss topics that can support their health and wellbeing.
Through Silver Foxes, Leicester City in the Community continues to use the power of football to bring people together, create positive experiences and support the health and wellbeing of older adults across Leicester.
